Strange PPSC logic

2015-08-21
IT is hard for a candidate to clear the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) written test for a lecturer`s post and the authorities declare him overage or not eligible.

In the following lines, I will highlight an illogical rule for candidates who are already serving in the Punjab education department and those who do not meet the eligibility criteria for the post of lecturer BPS 17 due to the complex manner of calculating the upper age limit.

The upper age limit for the post of lecturer as given in the advertisement dated May 2015 is 28 + 5 = 33 years for male candidates and 36 years for females. The general age relaxation of five years is for all candidates and three extra years for female candidates whether serving in a government department or not.

Contrary to the PPSC, for the lecturer post, the Punjab School E ducation Department gives 30 + 5 = 35 years as upper age limit for male candidates to become an educator. Here the problem is that the person who was selected as educator when he was over 33 years and under 35 years will never be eligible for the post of lecturer.

The criteria for calculating the upper age of a Punjab government employee under the PPSC rule is that the period of his continuous service will be excluded from his current age to calculate the upper agewhich should not exceed 33 years for the post of lecturer.

My age is 38 years and I was appointed educator in Punjab School Education Department in February 2012. At that time my age was over 34 years and under 35 years. Now I have passed the PPSC lecturers` written examinations but I was declared ineligible for the post because after excluding my service my age is calculated between 34 and 35 years.

Thisis absurd andillogicalbecause a person whose current age is 55 years, is considered for the post of lecturer if he was appointed in government service before reaching the age of 33, while a 38-year-old government employee of the education department is ineligible because he came into service at over 33 years.

I wrote to the PPSC chairman who did not respond.
