LAHORE: Gunmen shot dead a woman and looted valuables from people in six other hits on Monday.

Police said Samreen Bibi was going back to her home from a local market with her husband Shahzad in the Kahna area when two gunmen held them. The suspects snatched from them jewellery and cash worth Rs75,000.

During the mugging, as gunmen mistreated Samreen, Shahzad offered resistance which led to a physical clash between the two sides. One of the gunmen shot at and injured Samreen when she tried to help her husband.

The gunmen later fled the scene. The woman was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

In related incidents, gunmen entered the house of Ahmad in Sherakot, held the family at gunpoint and deprivedthemofRs200,000.

In Defence, gunmen looted cash and jewellery worth Rs230,000 from the residence of Kamran in the jurisdiction of Defence B police. Later, they fled the scene.

In the Mistri Shah area, gunmen broke into the house of Babar Ali and escaped after looting Rs240,000, including mobile phones and other valuables.

In another strike, gunmen took away cash and jewellery from the residence of Yasir Ali in the area of Muslim Town police.
