Shahbaz sees `conspiracy` behind Xi`s visit cancellation

MULTAN: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the visit of the Chinese president to Pakistan was got cancel under `a conspiracy hatched in London`.
He levelled the allegation while talking to the media at Sher Shah on the occasion restoration of road link between Multan and Muzaffargarh for light traffic.
The road link between the two cities was severed because of recent flood in River Chenab.
`The Chinese president has signed $20 billion development projects with India in Delhi and if Imran Khan, Tahirul Qadri and Chaudhry brothers had not got cancelled the visit of Mr Xi to Pakistan under London Plan,there would have been an investment of $34 billion in the country to help overcome the energy crisis, besides opening new doors for progress of agriculture, economy and trade in the country,` he said.
He said Saudi Arabia, China, Turkey and Iran are closest friends of Pakistan and it is unfortunate that Chinese president signed dozens of projects worth $20 billion with India.
He said it had been decided that China would invest $34 billion in Pakistan. However, Imran, Qadri and Chaudhry brothers who are holding sit-in in Islamabad got cancelled the visit of Chinese president under a conspiracy hatched in London.
He said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Chinese president in his home prov-ince and also arranged his visit to the memorial of Mahatama Gandhi.
`We had also planned the visit of Chinese president to the memorials of Quaid-i-Azam and Allama Iqbal but it was not allowed to happen. These elements are against the progress of the country and the people would never forgive them,` he said.
He said Imran Khan lied regarding his meeting with Mr Qadri in London. However the Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief could not hide the truth and disclosed the meeting.
He said Chaudhry brothers had always ditched the people and they are involved looting Bank of Punjab, besides they got written off their loans.
He said after completion of rescue and relief operations, work onrehabilitation had been started and first installment of compensation to the flood victim would be given from Sept 28 while concerned banks and the Board of Revenue had finalised the arrangements in this regard.
He said all important road links in the province affected by the flood were being restored.
A deadline of 72 hours was given for restoration of MultanMuzaffargarh road link that had been restored within 48 hours by the district government and National Highway Authority.
He said that Head Muhammadwala Bridge would also be restored very soon and fault in the design would also be removed.
In his briefing, Multan District coordination Officer ZahidSaleem Gondal said the passage of Rriver Chenab in the district was 130km long and the flood affected large areas there.
He said 60 boats were used to rescue more than 10,000 people while 24 flood relief camps and 34 tent villages were established in the district.
The DCO said monitoring and redressal committees had been constituted to estimate the losses and the payment of compensation to the flood-hit.
An NHA official said water discharge from 300-foot-wide breached area of Head Muhammadwala was continuing.
He said a committee had been constituted to plug the breach and to identify the fault at Head Muhmmadwala, adding the process would take 30 days to complete.
