ONE morning I went to the post of fice for posting a letter under registered cover and was shocked to find that the registration fee has been raised from Rs20 to Rs30 ef fective.
Sept 12. Sending a letter under registered cover will now cost Rs38 instead of Rs28.
The sum of Rs20 was already a heavy charge for this facility and to raise it by one-third is downright fleecing the public.Besides, the increase, if at all it was found necessary,shouldhave been takencare of while preparing the 2015-2016 budget.
I would urge the postal department to undo the increase in the registration fee and realise that it is not just a business concern out to earn profits but a public utility service for the benefit of society.
