Changes in syllabus opposed PESHAWAR, Oct 20: The Qaumi Watan Party has opposed the proposed removal of the chapters on Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan also known as Bacha Khan and noted Pashto poet Ghani Khan from the textbooks of seven and eight grades. In a statement issued from the party`s central secretariat here on Sunday, QWP provincial information secretary Tariq Ahmad Khan asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Textbook Board to desist from making any such move. He said Bacha Khan and Ghani Khan had played a pivotal role in the struggle for the freedom of the subcontinent and rendered meritorious services for the cause of Pakhtuns and that they must be remembered. The QWP leader said that lessons about other Pakhtun poets, literati and political leaders should also be included in the textbooks so the future generations could know about their services. -Bureau Report Grid station demanded LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 20: Local leaders of political parties have demanded of the federal and provincial governments to set up a separate grid station in Lakki city to overcome loadshedding and low voltage problems. Talking to Dawn here on Sunday, PTI`s district general secretary Ahmad Nawaz, PPP`s Ihsanullah, QWP`s district general secretary Imranullah Marwat and Humayun Khan of ANP said elected representatives had failed to resolve problems of loadshedding and low voltage. `Residents of the urban locality are hard hit by power outages which have also brought business activities to a standstill,` they said. The leaders said the urban locality comprised of two union councils which got electricity from two power feeders installed in 132KV Tajazai grid station. They said as population of Laklci city was growing the government should set up a separate grid station there to meet the increasing demand of power. -Correspondent Road in bad condition GHALANAI, Oct 20: The dilapidated condition of BajaurPeshawar road and absence of a bridge on it over a nullah have been inconveniencing motorists. Residents of Haleemzai, Safi and Khewazai demanded of the concerned authorities to renovate the road and construct a bridge on Chanda Khawar watercourse. They said due to absence of bridge on the nullah motorists faced problems when the stream flooded during rains. They said portion of the road from Yousafkhel to Ghalanai was littered with potholes which had further widened during recent rains. Furthermore, they said construction material lying along the footpaths and lack of parking space in markets located along the road also caused traffic jams. Jamil Khan, a truck driver, said, `Driving a loaded truck on the track has become impossible due to its bad condition. Nasir Khan, a local elder, said he had lodged several complaints with the authorities concerned to repair the road, but to no avail. -Correspondent Three outlaws arrested MINGORA, Oct 20: Swat police on Sunday arrested three outlaws, including two target killers, during raids in Matta and Rahimabad police stations` limits. Officials said police were informed about the presence of two target killers, Kamran, 17, of Pir Keli, Swat and Nawab of Mardan, in Shakardara area of Matta tehsil. `A raid was carried out in the area in which both the target killers were arrested,` they said. The officials said the arrested persons had come from Karachi where they resided in Pathan Colony and were wanted to the port city police in incidents of target killing. Meanwhile, Rahimabad police also arrested an outlaw during a raid at Ogdu area of Takhta Band, and also recovered six hand grenades, a pistol and ammunition from his possession. Mingora city DSP Yousaf Ali told mediapersons that Subhan Ali of Qambar was arrested from his home. `A bag found on the spot contained six hand grenades, a pistol and ammunition,` he said. -Correspondent Dengue affects more people MINGORA, Oct 20: Thirty-four more people on Sunday tested positive for dengue, taking the number of affected people to 8,534 in Swat district. According to Dr Wasil Khan, focal person for dengue emergency unit at the Saidu hospital, of the 4,794 patients admitted to the hospital 4,545 had been discharged after completion of treatment. Dr Khan said that 121 patients, including 95 men, 20 women and six children, were under treatment at the hospital while 20 had been discharged during last 24 hours. He said that 20 patients, including 18 men and two women, who were in critical condition had been admitted to high dependency unit of the hospital. -Correspondent 28 sheesha smokers arrested PESHAWAR, Oct 20: Twenty-eight people, including 10 unregistered Afghan nationals, on Sunday were arrested during a raid at a sheesha house in limits of Town police station here. A source said the Afghans would be charged under section 14 of the Foreign Act to deport them to their native country. However, an official of the police station said they were only five identified as Shujaat, Suleman, Shahid, Malik Zada and Ashraf Ali. `We have registered case against them,` he said. Meanwhile, eunuchs blocked GT Road here on Sunday to protest their eviction from Gulbahar area by the police. The Gulbahar police resorted to tear gas and baton charge against the protesters, and arrested many of them. The eunuchs shouted against police. An official said the evictions were ordered following bomb blast near an Imambargah, but eunuchs again tried to return to the area. He said police again asked them to leave the area, but they blocked the road. -Bureau Report
