SWABI, Oct 20: People from Swabi and nearby districts thronged the Kund Park, the only natural picnic spot in the region, on Sunday, the last day of prolonged Eid holidays.
The park could be reached from Nowshera, Buner, Haripur, Mardan and Attock districts. People could also reach the park from the main GT road by chairlifts over Kabul river. The visitors from Swabi district could use a four kilometre road, which is linked with Swabi-Jehangira road at Jehangira.
`Today is the fifth day of Eid and people are no longer tied in the traditional web to stay home or visit their relatives and friends to exchange Eid greetings. This is the reason for the great rush here today (Sunday),` said Riaz Ahmad of Kernal Sher Kallay.
People, especially youngsters, enjoyed boating and bathing in shallow waters of Indus river at the park, while families accompanied by children visited the park to enjoy outing on the day. `In past, only groups of friends, mostly male, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa areas would visit the park, but now people have been coming here along with their families to enjoy a variety of delicious foods and clean water of the Indus river,` said Zafar Ahmad, a local resident.
Fried fish was the main demand of most of visitors though a variety of meat dishes were also available. `We have eaten a lot of beef of sacrificial animals during last four days and are now eating fish for a change of taste, said Fazal Amin of Topi city.
Local singers were seen entertaining the visitors, especially youngsters, with their songs. Some youths were also dancing with traditional songs popular among Pakhtuns.
The park zoo was also thronged by visitors, especially children and women.
However, the visitors complained that during Eid days the park management charged triple entry fee from them.
Before Eid per person entry fee was Rs10, but now they were charging Rs30, they said.
The contractor equally charged the children, while each car owner had to pay Rs40 as parking fee.
The visitors said that the four-kilometre road leading to the park from Swabi-Jehangira road was in a dilapidated condition and it was difficult to travel through it because each passing vehicle was followed by a storm of dust.
The visitors said that only few people opted to reach the park through chairlifts and if the government constructed a bridge on the Kabul river from the GT road it would increase the number of visitors from various areas of Punjab.
