ISLAMABAD: Three deaths and 248 new dengue fever cases were reported in the capital during the last two days.

On the other hand, Rawalpindi saw 89 people contracting dengue virus on Wednesday, taking the tally to 1,813.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia said the three deaths and 141 dengue fever cases were recorded on Tuesday while 107 more patients landed in hospitals of the twin cities on Wednesday.

Patients who died were admitted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, District Headquarters Hospital, Rawalpindi,and a private hospital, he said, adding that they were residents of G-7/1, Dhoke Abbasi and Jhangi Syedan, respectively.

On Tuesday, 78 cases surfaced in rural and 63 in urban areas, Dr Zia said.

Besides, 30 cases came from Tarlai, followed by 13 from Tarnol, 12 each from Koral and Sohan, five from Bhara Kahu, four from Alipur and two from Sihala, he added.

On Wednesday, 53 and 54 cases were reported from rural and urban areas, respectively.

The death toll from dengue fever rose to nine in Islamabad seven from rural areas and two from urban localities -the DHO said, adding that the tally of patients in the capital had reached 2,230.

Meanwhile, beds in dengue wards were increased to 175 in Holy Family Hospital, 30 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 69 in District Headquarters Hospital.

According to the health authority data, so far 161 patients were under treatment in three hospitals, with 92 in Holy Family Hospital, 15 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital and 54 in District Headquarters Hospital.

According to the official, five patients are in critical condition.

`By October 20, 1,721 patients recovered in the garrison city,` he added.
