KE `maintenance`

2023-10-21
EVERY other day, the maintenance team of K-Electric (KE) descends on our area Abul Hasan Ispahani Road and shuts off electricity to the neighbourhood from morning to evening. On Oct 18, they cut off power to us at 9am and restored it at 6.30 pm.

We alone, especially old people like me, know what life without electricity means in hot weather. Because there is no electricity, the motor that pumps water to the tank on the third floor cannot do its job. So we have to do without water and pray for power to return. It goes without saying that computers remain idle, so do fans, fridges and air-conditioners.

We understand every system needs maintenance, but maintenance by a public utility team should not mean torture to its clients.

If this kind of `maintenance` is done in London, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Dubai or Houston, officials will be skinned alive.

I wonder why KE cannot develop a system whereby maintenance is done without torture to its clients. Any idea? AKEvictim Karachi
