Goods transporters announce strike against `illegal` fines

2024-10-21
HARIPUR: The All Pakistan Goods Transporters` Union on Sunday announced a wheel-jam strike in protest against what they described as illegitimate fines imposed by the traffic and other police across the country.

The decision was made during a meeting held in Hattar area here, attended by transporters from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and other regions.

The union declared that if their demands were not met, they would stop their vehicles at various locations across the country from Sunday night.

The participants claimed that in addition to the traffic police, the highway, motorway, customs, patrolling and anti-car lifting police imposed fines on the transporters.

They said these departments allegedly stopped goods transport vehicles and imposed heavy fines multiple times a day.

The transport union leaders stated that the fines were too heavy, leaving transporters unable to cover their costs and save money for their expenses.

They also highlighted that while they paid toll tax, the government had yet to introduce any favourable policies for goods transporters.-APP
