Medical board to examine `tortured` student today

KARACHl: The special medical board formed by the Sindh health ministry to assess the health condition of a class-Vlll student of the Cadet College Larkana, who was allegedly tortured at the institution,would examine the boy at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Monday morning, officials said on Sunday.
They said the board was headed by Civil Hospital Karachi neurosurgeon Junaid Ashraf, which would examine the student, Mohammed Ahmed Hussain, at the JPMC.
Dr Jamal Raza, director, National Institute of Child Health, is convener of the board.
Besides determining the possible cause of the injuries, the officials said, the board would examine the child and furnish its recommendations for treatment within the country or abroad. The report would be submitted to the ministry the same day.
The boy`s family said they had received him in an unconscious condition on August 10 when the cadet college`s administration claimed that he was suffering from fever. The private hospitals that later treated Hussain reported that he had suffered `severe torture`.
Secretary health Dr Usman Chachar visited Mr Mashori on Saturday asking him to appear before the medical board with the child at the JPMC on Monday.
The Sindh government would bear the treatment expenses.
