Three cops hurt in grenade attack

MARDAN: Three policemen suffered injuries when unidentified persons hurled a hand grenade at a police van on Mardan-Swabi Road near Musa Koroona area here on Saturday.

Officials at the Par Hoti police station said that Inspector Mohammad Anwar Khan and constables, Sanaullah and Shehzad, received injuries in the grenade attack. The policemen were on a routine patrol in the area when they came under attack, said the officials.

They said that the attackers riding a motorcycle managed to escape taking advantage of darkness.

The officials said that the injured policemen were shifted to district headquarters hospital for treatment, where according to doctors their condition was out of danger.

An FIR was registered against unidentified persons, they said and added that a search operation was launched in the nearby areas to arrest the attackers. However, no arrest was made till filing of this report.
