Students asked to learn basics of live theatrical performance

PESHAWAR: Experts at an event held here on Wednesday asked young performers to learn basics of live theatrical performance as it would help them address social issues through proper use of feelings and emotions in an effective way.
A daylong workshop titled `youth for social cohesion` was organised under the auspices of Culture, Literature, Arts and Development Organisation (Clado), a not-for-profit body, at the youth affairs directorate.
Around 40 students from KPuniversities were trained on live theatrical performances.
The trainees were from art and dramatic societies from IMsciences, Abdul Wali Khan University, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, City University and the University of Peshawar.
Safeer Khan, chief trainer on theatrics, in his opening remarks pointed out that young students should bring out their hidden talent for effective live performances as it would help them resolve burning social issues.
`Theatre has played a significant role in highlighting social issues owing to its strong impact on theaudience,` he added.
Abdur Rahman Afridi, Clado chief, said KP enjoyed a 100-yearold history of live theatre and had produced legends of Bollywood, including Dilip Kumar, Rajkapoor and several others.
`Still KP soil is fertile enough to produce young talented individuals to reclaim the strength of theatrical performances.
Alamgir Khan, chief organiser of the event, said the main objective of the workshop was to find a group of young theatre performers at provincial level for creating social cohesion and to counter social issues in an effective manner.The workshop was followed by two monologues performances one each revolving around illegal trafficking of young people, and right of inheritance of women as both the issues posed a serious threattosocialsetup.
Maria Noor, a girl student, told this scribe that art and dramatic societies existed on most campuses, but due to hectic study routine, young students got fewer chances to improve their communicative skills.
Rawaida Kamal Khan, another student, added she and her colleagues learnt a lot from the workshop, saying live theatre performance was a novel experience.
