PM vows to eliminate terrorism

ISLAMABAD: The government is committed to rooting out terrorism from the country, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday.

Addressing the annual session of the World Economic Forum in Davos, he said the country had rendered countless sacrifices in the war against terrorism and had paid a heavy price, losing thousands of lives of innocent people and also suffering a loss of about $100 billion but thegovernment was fully committed to eliminating the menace.

He said the country`s resolve to fight against terrorism had become stronger despite suffering severely.

The prime minister said the military operation Zarb-i-Azb was continuing successfully and many important goals had been achieved but now the extremists are on the run and attacking soft targets.He also said that his government had gained economic success and the growth rate had increased.

Ms Sharif said that when his government came into power, the three biggest challenges were economic revival, energy shortage and the scourge of terrorism.

`We addressed all the issues and witnessed success in the economic sphere, while militancy is declining.Now the government was striving to overcome the energy issue, he said. China is investing $46bn in diverse fields and the ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor would benefit the country as well as the whole region, he said.

The prime minister said 70 per cent population of Pakistan was below 30 years of age and jobs were being created for them with the help of the private sector.-PPI
