Suspected robber shot dead in ‘encounter’

KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead and another arrested in wounded condition in an alleged encounter in PIB Colony on Sunday, police said.
Area SHO Faisal Gul Khawaja said that five muggers were snatching cell phones from citizens at the main bazaar when a police patrol reached there. In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, one unidentified suspect was gunned down while his accomplice, later identified as Sahil, was injured while the others managed to escape from the spot.
The police claimed to have recovered two pistols, three snatched cell phones and a motorbike from their custody.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man, Mohammed Zain Shah, was shot at and injured by armed muggers when he put up resistance at Bhittaiabad in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Sunday afternoon. The wounded man was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
In another incident, Mohammed Yaseen, 35, was shot and wounded while resisting a robbery at Steel Mills Chowrangi on the National Highway, according to Bin Qasim police. The injured was shifted to the JPMC.
Fire erupts in factory
A fire broke out in a yarn factory in New Karachi Industrial area on Sunday, adds APP.
According to a spokesman for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, an emergency had been declared at the Sakhi Hasan hydrant. Several tankers filled with water had been dispatched to the fire site.
