OVERFLOWING DRAIN: The only storm-water drain, which has been practically converted into an open sewerage drain, in Jam Nagar Mohallah of Karachi`s Keamari district, is overflowing for the last few months. The issue has been reported to the union council (UC) and town municipal committee (TMC), but no action has been initiated. An application was handed over to the office of the city mayor. At the time, the deputy mayor assured that the matter would be resolved soon. Subsequently, some officials appeared on the site along with men and material, but they simply dumped the solid waste on the sides instead of removing it from the location. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), at least, needs to do its job properly.
Abdul Sattar Karachi WORTHY EXPECTANTS: This is with reference to the letter `A flawed policy` (Jan 11), which talked of a discriminatory promotion policy in the provincial College Education Department. The same is the case in the nursingprofession.
Many holders of doctorate and master`s degrees are expecting theirhierarchical promotions, but these individuals, despite having academic qualifications, hold no distinction in the eyes of the Health Department. Individuals receive routine pay and scale without any weightage in the seniority list. The Health Department must immediately address the concerns of nursing professionals to prevent inflicting damage to their self-esteem and dignity.
Khanghar Rughio Haji Hashim Rajar Garang Village TRAFFIC SIGNALS: Traffic signals are crucial for road safety. They alert the drivers about when to stop and proceed, keeping the traffic organised. However, in Balochistan, traffic signals hardly exist.
Most of the roads in Turbat, Awaran, Hub, Quetta, Khuzdar and Bela do not have functional signals. Accidents are reported every day in these cities, often resulting in the loss of lives, but nothing concrete is done to manage traffic efficiently. The government should install traffic signals on all important roads across the province.
