Survey finds `lacunas` in security of prisoners in judicial lock-ups

RAWALPINDI: Some serious discrepancies have been noticed in the security and safety of under-trial prisoners who are keptinjudiciallock-ups,revealed a survey of the judicial complexes in the Murree district.
The security of judicial officers and judicial enclaves in Murree and its tehsil Kotli Sattian was also examined during the security survey, in which serious lacunas were observed.
The survey was conducted by the Murree district police regarding the safety and security of under-trial prisoners.
Expressing concern over the safety and security of under-trial prisoners who are kept in judiciallock-ups, the Murree district police requested the Murree deputy commissioner to remove discrepancies in Murree and Kotli Sattian.
In a letter written to the Murree DC on behalf of the DPO, the administration was requested for immediate rectifications, which were direly needed to avoid any untoward situation. The sources said the Rawalpindi district and session judge and the Murree additional district and session judge were also informed about the lacunas in the security noticed by the police during the survey.
However, the Murree DPO Murree, when contacted, said: `No loopholes were pointed out.
Anti-encroachment operation Following the directives ofMurree Chief Traffic Officer Mughees Ahmed Hashmi, a fullscale operation against illegal encroachments was conducted in the vicinity of New Murree Bazaar, Patriota, and Jhikka Gali Chowk under the leadership of DSP Traffic Murree Abrar Sarwar Qureshi.
The spokesperson for the Murree traffic police said that the Murree traffic deputy superintendent of police, along with the staff, immediately removed the encroachments and personally supervised the measures to provide convenience to the public.
During the campaign, the traffic police removed hundreds of vehicles from the no-parking area using a lifter and issued challan tickets. The public is fac-ing anguish due to traffic congestion because of encroachments, said Mr Hashmi, adding that encroachments or illegal parking would not be tolerated.
According to the CTO, the sector in-charge has been directed to take legal action against individuals involved in encroachment. Citizens were requested to follow traffic rules, park their vehicles in designated spaces and prove themselves as responsible citizens, said the CTO Murree.
The CTO said the police were taking all possible steps to provide the best travel facilities to the public, adding that only with the cooperation of citizens and compliance with traffic rules could the beauty of the city be maintained.
