Rs508.5m set aside for PC-I of desert branch canal upgrade

BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab government has allocated a sum of Rs508.515 million for the PC-1 of the revised project of the remodeling and improvement of desert branch canal mainly irrigating Yazman tehsil.
Dawn learnt that the remodeling scheme of the canal was the initiative of the PML-N`s leaders including MPA Khalid Jajja and former MNA and senator Saood Majid Chaudhry.
Saood Majid Chaudhry told Dawn that with the approval of the plan and the sanctioning of the amount of over Rs500 million, the complaints of the farming community in and around Yazman tehsil regarding the shortage and irregular supply of the canal water in the desert canal could be redressed on a permanent basis.
In this respect, the provincialirrigation department has issued notificationNo.SO(prog)1-/22/2021.
PSP: Differences cropped up in Pakistan Seraiki Party (PSP) headed by Dr. Nukhba Taj Langah splitting it into two factions.
Akbar Ansari belonging to Ahmedpur East, the former PSP secretary general, under Dr. Nukhba along with lawyers` wing president Malik Naeem Iqbal at a news conference at Multan Press Club on Monday claimed the restoration of PSP asking Dr.Nukhba and her other members not to use the name of PSP and instead brand their group as PSP-T as he (Ansari) has already moved for registration of PSP to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The Dr. Nukhba Taj Langah group has not so far reacted to this announcement.
SELF-IMMOLATION BID: A man attempted self-immolation over a marriage dispute in Makhdumpur police precincts of Khanewal tehsil.
According to police and rescuers, Akhtar had married a girl of his choicebut the local panchayat returned his bride on the promise that their marriage would be arranged and the bride would be accompanied with her.
Later, the girl`s parents refused and Akhtar got dejected and attempting selfimmolation by setting himself ablaze, but with the timely intervention of locals, the fire was extinguished. He suffered critical burns and was shifted to hospital.
FUNDING: The Korean International Cooperation Agency will provide $10 million worth of assistance to Water and Sanitation Agency, Multan, to implement its urban flooding master plan.
According to Wasa`s deputy director Muhammad Nadeem, the Korean company`s delegation of experts reached Multan and would prepare a master plan here. He briefed the delegation and informed their members that during the 2024 monsoon, the city faced urban flooding causing a great deal of inconvenience to thelocalpopulation.

MURDER: A man allegedly shot dead his father over his second marriage near MDA Chowk, Multan.
According to police sources, Shehbaz nurtured grudge against his father Azeem Khakwani, for marrying a second wife. The incident occurred when Azeem visited his first wife, Shehbaz`s mother, leading to an argument.
During the heated dispute, Shehbaz allegedly opened fire, killing his father.
