TIMERGARA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has appointed Dr Rehmat Ali as new vice-chancellor of the University of Malakand after approving a summary forwarded by the Higher Education Commission.

The post had fallen vacant on Jan 13 when former VC Dr Johar Ali retired. Earlier, Dr Rehmat Ali performed as dean of sciences, UoM, according to a press release issued here on Tuesday.

Dr Ali completed his PhD in mathematics from the University of Glasgow, UK, and later got post-doctorate degree from the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA. He has also worked as the director quality enhancement cell of UoM.

Meanwhile, Jamaat-i-Islami MPA Izazul Mulk Afkari on Tuesday said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had promised to start work on construction of Timergara medical college.

Talking to journalists, he said the JI lawmakers along with ministers Muzafar Syed and Inayatullah had met the chief minister and apprised him of the people`s grievances on the issue of the college.

The MPA said the chief minister agreed to release funds for construction of the medical college. He said the CM also issued directives to the quarters concerned to immediately start classes of medical college in the existing building.Correspondent
