Court orders release of PA speaker`s brother

SWABI: A local court on Saturday ordered the release of the younger brother of the provincial assembly`s speaker on ball in a case about interference with government work and intimidation.

The development comes after the accused, Adnan Khan, and the complainant, University of Swabi vice chancellor Dr Noor Jehan, settled the matter out of the court.

Adnan Khan was arrested by the police after Dr Noor Jehan complained he misbehaved with her during a recent demonstration by the employees of her university.He was charged under PPC Section 186 (offence of obstructing public servant in the execution of public duty and PPC Section 506 (offence of criminal intimidation).

Earlier, Chota Lahor senior civil judge Iftikhar Ali Shah remanded the accused in the police custody for a day.

The police later freed him on the court`s order, which was issued on the production of the settlement papers.

A Marghuz village jirga formed by Mathlub Ahmad, an uncle of the accused, and a team of civil servants comprising Akhtar Ali Shah, DPO Sajjad Khan, deputy commissioner Matiullah Khan, Chota Lahor assistant commissioner Irshad Ali and DSP Azhar Shah met Dr Noor Jehan in a bid to settle the matter out of the court.

Jehan agreed to pardon the accused and thus, leveling the ground for his release on bail.GIR L DIES: A girl died and three suffered injuries when a primary school`s boundary wall collapsed in SaleemKhanareahereonSaturday.

The incident occurred at the Sherdil Banda Government Girls` Primary School, Bakar.

Local residents said when the wall collapsed, girls were studying by it due to unavailability of a classroom on the premises.

The incident claimed the life of eight-year-old Gulalai Khan and inflicted injuries on Zimal Begum, 7, and Nishad Khan, 6.

The name of the third girl was not known.The injured were shifted to the Shahmansoor Hospital Complex, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.

Officials of the district administration visited the school and sympathised with parents of the deceased and the injured.

PRISONER ESCAPE BID FOILED: The local police onSaturday foiled an attempt of three prisoners to flee when the vehicle carrying them had an accident.

According to Chota Lahor DSP Azhar Shah, the accident occurred when the Nowshera police were shifting prisoners from the district judicial lockup to the Swabi judicial lockup in a van.

The police used the motorway instead of GT Road for security reasons. The van carried six policemen and three prisoners.

When the van reached Chota Lahor area on the motorway, its tyre burst causing minor injuries to both policemen and prisoners.

The injured policemen called the Chota Lahor police for help.

In the meantime, the prisoners tried to flee but the attempt was foiled by the Chota Lahor police, which showed up within minutes of receiving call for help. The police shifted the injured to the Shahmansoor Hospital Complex.
