DERA GHAZI KHAN: The devotees of the shrine of Syed Sultan Ahmed Sakhi Sarwar took out a protest demonstration at the Sakhi Sarwar Sharif and blocked Dera-Quetta Road against, what they termed, undue security measures which had created hurdles for the visitors and re duction in the period of the Urs-cum-festival.
The original period of the Urs was from mid-February till April 13 but the administration issued an order for completely closing off the shrine on March 29 till further orders.Twin suicide blasts at the shrine had killed more than 55 devotees in 2010 after which the administration had imposed a ban on Dhol and Dhamaal on the premises of the shrine.
The suicide bombers had targeted the devotees performing Dhamaal.
The protesters demanded restoration of Dhamaal on the premises of the shrine as it had continued for last several centuries. They also demanded that the shrine should not shut on March 29 to end the festival as if affected theirbusiness.
The protestors dispersed peacefully after blocking the road for one hour.
