DACCA: Thirty-seven bodies have so far [as of April 20] been recovered from the devastated areas in Naria Police Station in Faridpur district which was hit on Sunday last by a severe tornado.

The tornado also hit Bhedarganj Police Station in the same district and parts of Bakerganj district killing 68 persons, according to official estimates. Seven hundred persons were injured.

The death figures might rise as the reports from other inaccessible parts are still awaited.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, houseto-house survey is still in progress and the extent of damage caused to lives and properties would be 1(nown later.

Meanwhile, an Opposition Member of the Provincial Assembly from the area, Mr Shamshur Rahman, and two Chairmen of the Union Councils have claimed in a statement that about 100 persons had perished in the disastrous tornado and about 10,000 people of12 villages rendered homeless.

The relief operation has been fully geared up.

Wireless sets have been provided at two places in the affected Thana to establish direct tele-communication link with Dacca. Medical teams rushed from Dacca and Faridpur have already reached the area and medical relief work is in full progress. The Deputy Commissioner explaining about the relief measures said that they had to face initially great difficulties in providing relief as the areas affected were most inaccessible and the weather was also rough.-Agencies [Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Kuwait,] The Sheilchdom and the British protectorate of Kuwait today [April 20] protested to Iraq against the `occupation of Kuwait territory` by the Iraqi forces yesterday.
