UC chairman killed, three injured by rivals

GUJRAT: A union council (UC) chairman belonging to the PML-N was gunned down and three others, including two of his guards, were injured when their car was ambushed allegedly by their rival group near Jago village in Qadirabad police precincts of Mandi Bahauddin districtlate on Thursday night.

Jamshed Tarrar was the chairman Kala Shadian UC of Phalia tehsil. The motive behind his murder was said to be political rivalry.

Jamshed was going to his home from Qadirabad when Babar Tarrar, Qamar and six other people blocked their way by parking a car. As their car stopped, the suspects opened fire on it, resulting in Jamshed`s death.

The other three occupants of his car also sustained bullet injuries.

They were later shifted to hospital.

The body of Jamshed was handed over to his family after autopsy at the hospital.

Qadirabad police have lodged a case against four nominated and two unidentined suspects on the report of Muhammad Arif, aclosekinofthedeceased.

Jamshed was elected UC chairman as an inde-pendent candidate in 2015 local government election and later on joined the PML-N.

MO RECRUITED: The district health authority has recruited 24 medical officers, including three women, for the health facilities to meet the shortage of doctors in the health department across the district, particularly in basic and rural health centres.

Gujrat Chief Executive Officer (Health) Dr Abid Ghauri told Dawn the recruitment committee, headed by Deputy C o m m i s s i o n e r Muhammad Ali Randhawa who also heads the district health authority, had approved the appointment of 15 medical officers whereas interview of nine more candidates, including three lady doctors, against the vacancies had also been completed.

The recruited doctors will be given appointment letters within two days.

Mr Ghauri said the appointments had been made through walk-in interviews and some more seats were vacant that would also be filled within next few days.

He added that the newly recruited doctors had been posted at the basic health units, rural health centres and some of them had been sent to the tehsil headquarters hospitals of the district.
