Three die in accidents

KARACHI: Three persons died in as many traffic accidents across the metropolis on Monday, police said.

They said that a water tanker claimed the life of a teenager in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday morning. Gulshan SP Ahmed Iqbal Memon told Dawn that the tanker driver was reversing the heavy vehicle in Block-6 when he ran over and killed 17-year-old Karimullah. The victim was the conductor of the same tanker, the officer added.

The driver escaped, leaving behind the tanker that was seized by police, said the officer.

In the second incident, a teenager was killed while his brother injured in an accident in Korangi early on Monday morning.

Zaman Town SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said the two brothers were riding a motorcycle which went out of their control, ostensibly due to speeding, and hit afootpath near Nasir Jump. They suffered critical injuries and were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where Fahad, 17, was pronounced dead while Abdul Rauf, 20, was admitted for treatment.

The officer said the family told the police that they did not want any legal proceedings.

In another incident, a bike rider was killed in Shah Faisal Colony early Monday morning.

Shah Faisal Colony SHO Abdul Ghani said that Athar Ali, 18, was riding the bike when he sustained injuries in an accident near Data restaurant. He was taken to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead. Later on, the body was shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

The officer said it was an accident but they were also investigating whether the deceased was hit by any vehicle. -Staff Reporter
