Ex-SC judge Sarmad Jalal passes away

KARACHI: Retired Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, a former judge of the Supreme Court, passed away on Monday morning at a private hospital. He was 75.
His funeral prayers will be held at Masjid-i-Hamza in Phase VII, Defence Housing Authority,on Tuesday (today) after Asr prayers.

The Sindh High Court (SHC) also suspended court work after 10:30am on Monday as a mark of respect. Born on October 13, 1950 in Lahore, Justice Osmany enrolled as a lawyer at district courts in1978. In 1985, he founded his own law firm in Karachi practicing primarily in the fields of banking, shipping and mergers and acquisitions.
He was appointed as a judge of the SHC in 1998 and on Aug 3, 2009 he had become the chief justice of the high court. In February 2011, he had become the judge of the Supreme Court.
