Justice Khalid Ishaq heard the matter and directed the disbursement of the amount equally between the two widows of the deceased. The cheques were presented in court by the company, involved in businesses of food, beverages and bottled water, during the proceedings.

The late Asif was a union leader at Kabirwala plant of the company, which had dismissed him in 2015 along with other employees from joballegedly due to his union activities.

A labour court and the National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) had ordered the reinstatement of Asif Javed and other employees along with the payment of their dues. But the company challenged the NIRC`s decision in the Lahore High Court where the case remained pending since then.

Due to a delay in the court`s verdict, Asif had become disheartened and resorted to the extreme act of committing suicide.

The court now concluded the case following the company`s compensation to his family.

Earlier, the Punjab Assembly Standing Committee on Labour and Human Resource, chaired by MPA Amjad Ali Javed held a meeting to address the tragic self-immolation of Asif Javed.

The meeting was attended by Javed`s widows, representatives from the company, and officials from the Labour and Human Resource department.
