TOBA TEK SINGH: Watermelons worth millions of rupees have been stolen from seven acres of land belonging to the University of Kamalia (UoK).

The university registrar has sent a letter to the Kamalia assistant commissioner for immediate legal action over the largescale theft of watermelons from the state land located at Chak 710/GB.

According to the letter, the crop was grown on seven acres and was stolen on Sunday night. It stated that the watermelons were loaded into three vehicles and taken away by suspects identified as Abuzar, Yasir, Asghar, Ghafoor, Nasir, and others yet to be identified.

The registrar said that an open auction for the crop had been scheduled for April 25. The theft not only caused a financial loss to the university but also sabotaged the transparent and legal process of the planned auction.

The letter said the incident shows the insecurity of state-owned land, which could be vulnerable to further illegal activity.

The registrar requested a transparent investigation and legal action against the culprits to prevent such incidents in the future.
