Notices issued to 63 protesting health employees

TOBA TEK SINGH: The medical superintendent of Jhang DHQ Hospital issued explanation notices on Monday to 63 employees, including 24 male and female doctors, nurses, paramedics and other staff, for participating in a protest against the outsourcing of public health facilities.

Some of the employees named in the notices claimed they did not take part in the protest, while others who were actively involved were not named.

The letters said the employees were absent from duty and boycotted OPD services, resulting in disruption of medical services and leaving patients unattended, which is a violation of service rules and misconduct under departmental regulations. All were directed to submit replies within three days, justifying why disciplinary action should not be taken under the Peeda Act.

ENCOUNTER: A robber from Sahiwal, wanted in dozens of robbery cases in Lahore, Sahiwal and Toba districts, was killed in an alleged encounter with Pirmahal police on Monday.

Police claimed he was hit by bullets fired by his own accomplices, who managed to escape.

ARRESTED: Police in Gulberg, Faisalabad, arrested on Monday Waleed Shani Dhillon and his two accomplices for allegedly kidnapping a widow and a man to pressure them into withdrawing from a murder case.

Complainant Afifa Shahzadi, of Awami Colony said her husband Shahbaz was murdered by Qasim Randhawa, who was sentenced to life imprisonment. She said Dhillon, who was associated with Randhawa`s group, had been threatening her to stop pursuing the case.

Two days ago, Dhillon and his accomplices allegedly abducted her and her husband`s business partner Rana Asif, torturing them at a factory. Both reportedly escaped through a window.

In a separate FIR registered on the complaint of Rana Asif, he alleged that Dhillon and his men later stormed his office, opened fire and vandalised furniture, computer, and other items. Police are conducting raids to arrestthe suspects.
