he National University of Sciences and Technology (Nust) launched its scholar support programme, `Nust endowment for educational development (NEED) Initiative,` at the main campus. The event was attended by philanthropists, donors, faculty members, staff and alumni from around the globe through a video link.
Dr Attaur Rahman, the founding chairman of the Higher Education Commission, was the chief guest. Online donations and pledges touched a figure of Rs20 million when the event concluded. The event was jointly organised by the Nust Alumni Association and the University Development Office.
The special feature of the event was the launch of the online donation management system. The software facilitates the payment of donations and transparent monitoring of funds/expenditure by the donors.
Nust Rector Engineer Mohammad Asghar on the occasion said the education sector remained dormant for most part of the country`s history and it was high time concrete measures were taken for the spread of education to every nook and corner of the country. `Pakistan has a youth with an immense potential.
However, many of the brilliant students cannot get quality education for want of financial resources.
