KARACHI: An alleged robber was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ off Rashid Minhas Road on late Friday night, Sharea Faisal police said.
Two suspects snatched cash and other valuables from a citizen, who had drawn money from an automated teller machine in Gulshan-i-Jamal, said Gulshan SP Dr Fahad Ahmed.
The robbery victim alerted a police van passing through the area. The police chased the fleeing suspects and an encounter ensued in which one unidentified suspect was gunned down, added the officer.
The police claimed to have recovered a pistol, snatched cash and a mobile phone from the possession of the deceased.
Two suspected bank robbers held
Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two suspects, including one security guard, for their alleged involvement in a recent bank robbery in Orangi Town.
More than Rs3.4 million was looted from a Habib Bank Ltd branch in Pakistan Bazaar on May 16 by two robbers after banking hours at 5.57pm.
The police apprehended security guard Zahid Khan and another suspect Mohammed Wasim while more raids were carried out to arrest their accomplices, said Karachi-West SSP Azfar Mahesar.
