Doctors get training during surgical week

PESHAWAR: Doctors here received live training via video conference on management of cancer and endocrine diseases during the fourth annual surgical week, which concluded at the Khyber Teaching Hospital on Sunday.
The event was jointly organised by the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Karachi, and KTH where senior doctors from the tertiary care hospitals were imparted training through live conference from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City and Ninewells Hospital Dundee, UK, a press release said.
The participants got training about benign thyroid, thyroid cancer, parathyroid and adrenal gland during the week. The objective of the event was demonstration of surgery for multi-nodular goiter, solitary thyroid nodule and thyroid cancer, parathyroid and adrenal diseases and to emphasize recent developments in the field and current areas ofcontroversies.
Prof Jatin P Shah gave a lecture on diagnosis of workup of goiter, prevention and management of complications in thyroid surgery, multi-nodular goiter, choice of therapy for Grave`s hyperthyroidism and ophthalmopathy and surgical challenges in retrosternal goiter.
Dr David Monro Smith, consultant endocrine and general surgeon at Ninewells Hospital, gave a lecture on management of primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism, live demonstration of parathyroidectomy, surgical overview of adrenal tumour, surgical challenges of laparoscopic adrenalectomy, etc. Bureau Report
