Substandard wheat returned to Punjab

MANSEHRA: The district food department on Sunday returned 14 more trucks loaded with substandard wheat to Punjab.

A procurement committee led by district food controller had retuned 33 trucks loaded with substandard wheat last week. The trucks, sent back to Punjab so far, were having approximately 3,000 metric tonnes of wheat. It is 30 per cent of the total105,00 metric tonnes of wheat being procured by the district from Punjab during the current season.

Shaukat Sultan, the head of wheat stocks, said that so far almost 100 trucks load with the wheat reached from Punjab and half of them were sent back because of having substandard wheat.

Mr Sultan, who is also assistant food controller, said that a five-member team refused to receive the wheat consignment af ter finding that it was below standard.

STIPEND: The Al-Khidmat Foundation distributed books and monthly educational stipend among 200 orphans here on Sunday.

Ahsanul Haq Yasir, the provincial president of the foundation, gave away books and quarterly stipend of Rs18,000 each to orphan students in a ceremony held here at Al-Markaz-i-Islami.

He said that foundation was working across the country to help deserving people by providing them an opportunity to earn livelihood for their f amilies. Correspondent
