Two held over fraud; ATM cards recovered

KASUR: Mandi Usmanwala police arrested two swindlers on Tuesday and recovered cash and scores of automated teller machine (ATM) cards from them.
Following complaints, Mandi Usmanwala Station House Officer (SHO) Abdul Jabbar arrested suspects Younas alias Johni and Muhammad Sharif, who are said to be close relatives and allegedly involved in swindling people, particularly women, for several months by posing as Benazir Income Support Programme workers.
Police recovered Rs36,000 and scores of ATM cards from the suspects. They registered a case against the two and were lool(ing into the matter to arrest their accomplices. Instead of making the cash and ATM cards case property, as per law, police returned the amount to the victims.
SHO Jabbar told Dawn that the cash and ATMcards had been handed over to the complainants, while a procedure would be adopted later.
A handout was also released from the district police chief`s office that said the cash and ATM cards had been returned to the families.
RAPED AND KILLED: A woman found dead on Monday was raped before being killed and thrown into the fields in Chaila village, as per her medical reports.
Nawab Bibi, a labourer, did not return home after working in the fields on Sunday. Her family tried searching for her, but failed and informed police.
On Monday, police recovered a body from the fields that was later identified as that of Nawab Bibi. Police shifted the body to Pattoki THQ Hospital for autopsy.
On Tuesday, Nawab Bibi`s medical report suggested that she had been raped and strangled to death af ter which her body was thrown into the fields.
Police were investigating the matter.
