BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab Emergency Rescue Service 1122 will soon start recruitment process of 58 rescuers for the opening of two new stations at Khairpur Tameawall and Yazman.
Talking to Dawn, district emergency officer Bakir Hussain said the government had planned to open rescue stations in 62 tehsil headquarters across Punjab. He said the tehsils also included Khairpur Tameawali and Yazman of Bahawalpur district for which 58 posts of rescuers have been sanctioned.
He said in all 62 tehsils, as many as 1,740 posts ofrescuers were required.
`At present the buildings of rescue stations in Khairpur Tameawali and Yazman are being constructed and will be completed soon.
Bakir Hussain said after assuming charge he got 10 vehicles repaired particularly selfbreathing apparatus which were purchasedaboutadecadeago.
He said the repair work of another eight old ambulances and four fire-fighting engines would be tal(en up at a cost of Rs2.5 million.
It merits mentioning that owing to inoperative self-breathing apparatus, a rescuer had lost his life during operation in a sewer line at Satellite Town in February.
