Let`s take a leaf out of Israeli handbook

2021-05-22
IN 1948, Golda Meir, who later became the Israeli prime minister in 1969, was sent to the United States to raise funds to fight for an independent state for the Jews. She, being a member of the inner circle of pre-state leadership, was able to raise millions of US dollars, and that money changed the geographical and political landscape of the region.

David Ben-Gurion rightly said that when the history would be written, it will record that there was `a Jewish woman who got the money to make the state possible`. Her fundraising resulted in the establishment of the Jewish state. Today, when Palestine is bleeding once again, the rulers of the richest countries of the world the Arab states with unlimited resources are living their life of luxury while preferring to be simply silent spectators to the plight of the Palestinians.

An illegitimate state appeared on the world map with donations from around the world. Why can`t the Muslim countries, some of them being the richest in the world, collectively utilise the power of their money to force Israel to stop all brutalities and bring an end to the ferocious bombardment whose victims are mostly Palestinian women and children? The answer is obvious.

Will any Muslim country having diplomatic ties with Israel expel the Israeli ambassador as a token of their displeasure over what is happening in Gaza? Aamir Agil Lahore (2) T HIS is in reference with your editorial `Palestine bloodbath` (May 17). Israel and the United States live under the delusion that they will have their say in world af fairs forever. Anybody with a sense of history would tell you that empires do wither away.

The Muslim countries today toeing the line of unjust regimes will take the same route.

This is what history suggests. Just wait.

Ahmed Saeed Karachi (3) I RECENTLY watched a traumatised Palestinian gentleman who literally broke down into tears during a live transmission.

This image will haunt me, and readers who may have watched the programme will agree how aggrieved this Palestinian was.

The sight has caused me sleepless nights.

We should not remain silent and live our lives as if it doesn`t concern us.
