RECENTLY my sister was going abroad and I had to go to my bank for locker operation. I came to know that I could not operate it because bank changed its rules and I did not have another day to wait.
I signed an agreement with the bank that they would provide me a locker for the next 10 years and on the amount (I gave them as security) agreed upon.
But without informing me, they later enhanced the amount for security and also minimised the term to just five years.
This is sheer injustice. Usually, banks enforce their rules and regulations upon customers and recover even a singlepenny if any rule or regulation is violated.
However, customers hardly get relief in case of bank`s negligence.
The bank should be bound to pay heavy damages and asked to enforce its contract with customers in letter and in spirit.
Furthermore, the precious valuables and the value or weight of gold ornaments that are being kept in lockers for security must be known to the bank as in case of any loss caused to locker due to the bank, people may get the real price of their valuables instead of a meagre amount of insurance.
