Two militants killed in `encounter`

KARACHI: Two alleged militants were gunned down in a shoot-out with police in Gulshan-i-Maymar on Tuesday, officials said.

Theyaddedthatthecounterterrorism department (CTD) of Sindh police on intelligence reports about the presence of militants and criminal elements conducted a raid in a Gulshan-iMaymar locality near Northern Bypass.

`The police cordoned off the area,` said additional IG of CTD Dr Sanaullah Abbasi. `The armed men in the hideout attacked personnel of our team when they were busy taking positions. The attack led to an exchange of gunnre in which two militants identified as Inamullah, alias Kamran and Mohammed Shafi, alias Yasin were killed.

He said Inamullah was associated with the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and was its commander in Karachi.

HeaddedthatMohammed Shafi first joined the Tehreek-i-Taliban Swat, but later he associated himself with the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar.

`They used to prepare people for terrorism and were involved in extortion, added AIG Dr Abbasi.
