ISLAMABAD: After his second meeting with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in as many days, Balochistan National Party (BNP-M) leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Sunday hinted at more political changes in the country in the near future.

`In our meeting, we discussed the changes that have already taken place in the country and the changes which are about to come,` said Mr Mengal without elaborating, while talking to reporters after his meeting with the JUI-F chief.

`We can`t show you all the cards, the BNP-M chief said with a smile when asked about the matters that had come under discussion between the two leaders, leaving the reporters guessing whether they had discussed any possible change at the centre or in Balochistan, where the two parties are together on the opposition benches.

The BNP-M chief, who had last week created political ripples in the country by announcing his party`s decision to quit the PTI-led ruling coalition at the centre, visited the residence of the Maulana in less than 24 hours af ter his meeting with a two-member government team on Saturday night.Though, the first meeting between the government and Mr Mengal had ended without making any progress, both the sides had agreed to continue talks.

Mr Mengal said he had `personal relations` with Maulana Fazl and the JUI-F and the BNP-M had been sitting together in the opposition in Balochistan.

When asked if the BNP-M had finally decided to become part of the opposition in the parliament, Mr Mengal said talks were still underway. He, however, said his party had now come closer to the opposition parties.

`The day we formally join the opposition, we will show you the real opposition,` said Mr Mengal in an apparent criticism against the two major opposition parties the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Pakistan Peoples Party.

Mr Mengal said none of his demands was unconstitutional or illegal. `If our demands are unconstitutional and illegitimate, then the state, the government and the state institutions should clearly tell us so that we can see which door of any Pir we should knock at,` the BNP chief said while referring to the six-point agreement his party had reached with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) at the time of government formation after the 2018 general elections in the country.

Maulana Fazl said the BNP-M`s decision to quit the ruling coalition had rekindled hopes. He was of the view that other coalition partners of the PTI should also follow the BNP-M, saying that these parties should also `stand with the truth`.

The JUI-F chief expressed the hope that Mr Mengal would contact other allies of the PTIand convince them to come out of the ruling coalition by telling them that `this is not the time to support the government.

The Maulana said with the sinking of economy and due to `bad performance`, the PTI had lost whatever popularity it had.

`The fake prime minister has no realisation that his popularity has also waned with the country`s economy,` he said. He asked the rulers `to admit their failure and resign.

Mr Mengal and Maulana Fazl had addressed a news conference in Islamabad on Saturday after attending a multi-party conference of the opposition parties in Balochistan hosted by the JUI-F and presented a charter of demands before the government.

Mr Mengal had said the decision to quit the ruling coalition was a party decision which could not be changed by him.

`The decision to go back to the government is not in my hand. It is the decision of my party`s central executive committee and no individual can change it,` he had said.

Taking part in the budget debate on June 17, Mr Mengal had accused the PTI of having `non-serious attitude` to Balochistan`s problems and complained about its failure to implement the two agreements reached with his party at the time of government formation soon after the generalelectionsin2018.
