LAHORE: Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar, Governor of Punjab, has enacted today [June 21] the Punjab Legislative Assembly Election Act of 1950, which legalises the creation of new constituencies instead of the old ones for purposes of the coming election of the Provincial Assembly.
The new law also amends the previous law regarding corrupt practices. Among corrupt practices are now included: `All forms of entertainment of hospitality` and `attempts to induce to vote or not to vote for a particular candidate on the ground that the candidate belongs to a particular sect or class or tribe.
A list has been published ... of 153 constituencies, of which 44 will elect two members each. The total number of members will thus be 197. ... One of the members to be elected by a two-member constituency must be a refugee candidate. ... Among the constituencies, five are for Muslim women. No man is to be included to the electoral rolls of these constituencies... . There are four constituencies for Pakistani Christians and Anglo-Pakistanis and one general constituency. One seat in the Assembly is to be filled by the representative of the Panjab University. News agencies
