ISLAMABAD: The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) has awarded Fulbright scholarships to 72 students and scholars from Pakistan to earn Master`s and PhD degrees in the United States.

Fulbright is the US government`s flagship academic exchange programme, and the Pakistan programme is among the largest in the world. This year is the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright programme in Pakistan, says a press release.

Funded by the governments of the United States and Pakistan, the Fulbright programme enables Pakistani students to attend top US universities, engage in cutting-edge research, share knowledge with American peers and build valuable global connections that promote a safer and more prosperous world. To prepare students for their academic journey and cultural immersion, USEFP hosted a two-day predeparture orientation in Islamabad.

`The Fulbright program is an outstanding example of the transformational impact of the U.S.-Pakistan partnership through our joint commitment to higher education,` said U.S. Charge d`Affaires Natalie Baker.

`This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Fulbright program in Pakistan, and we look forward to many more decades of fruitful cooperation in education, research, and innovation.

This year`s cohort will begin their educational journeys at 42 US universities, focusing on a wide range of disciplines, including health, education, computer science, environmental studies and social sciences. The group includes 58 master`s students and 10 PhD candidates along with four Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant fellows. The scholarship covers travel expenses, living stipends, health insurance and tuition fees for the duration of their studies.

Dr Peter K. Moran, Executive Director of USEFP, welcomed the students at the pre-departure orientation and encouraged them to share their expertise with their colleagues at American universities.

`Your time in the United States is not only about academic study and development it is about learning from the American citizens you meet and share meals with; better informing your fellow students about Pakistan and defining your own career goals; and building the foundations of professional and social relationships that further the well being of Americans and Pakistanis alike.
