Bajaur admin approaches JUI-F for ending protest

BAJAUR: The Jamiat Ulema-iIslam-Fazl continued its protest sit-in against recent incidents of violence for the third consecutive day in Khar here on Sunday.

The participants vowed to continue the agitation until they got a strong assurance about restoration of peace by thwarting incidents of violence in the region.

A large number of political and social activists, religious and tribal leaders and traders participated in the sit-in arranged by JUI-F local leadership outside the Civil Colony, Khar.

On this occasion, an action committee comprising leaders of various political parties and tribal elders was also nominated for talks with the relevant authorities and devising fur-ther course of action to make the agitation result-oriented.

The district administration later approached the action committee members for a dialogue to end the agitation.

According to the committee sources and a statement issued by the administration on Sunday evening, deputy commissioner Fahad Wazir, DPO Abdul Samad Khan, provincial minister Anwar Zeb and leaders of the action committee were participating in the meeting being held at the DC office in Khar. However, there was no breakthrough till filing of this report.

Earlier, a delegation of Awami National Party workers of neighbouring Momand tribal district, led by MPA Nisar Momand, also joined the sit-in on Sunday and remained there for several hours.

Addressing the participants,Anwar Zeb, Nisar Momand, JUI-F district chief Maulana Abdur Rasheed, ex-governor Shaukatullah Khan, JI leader Maulana Waheed Gul , former MNA Akhunzada Chattan, PTI leader Akhtar Gul, Bajaur Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Haji Lali Shah and Nawagal tehsil council chairman Dr Khailur Rahman said the people of the tribal districts, including Bajaur, were peace-loving citizens who had rendered sacrifices for restoration of peace in the region.

They said that the recent incidents of violence had distributed the peace and normalcy in the district.

The speakers said they would not keep silent on unchecked incidents of violence in Bajaur and other tribal districts and asked the relevant authorities to use all of its efforts and resources for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
