`Killer of man, son` gunned down in Korangi encounter, police claim

KARACHl: A suspect believed to be involved in the murder of a man and his son during a robbery at a bookshop in Korangi was gunned down in an `encounter` on early Thursday morning, according to police.
The Zaman Town police claimed `an encounter took place between police and two suspected robbers at Korangi No.3 ½ near Coast Guard`s Owais Qarni Masjid. One of the suspects was gunned down while the other was arrested after an exchange of fire`.
The deceased was identified as Ahsan Gul and held suspect as Imran. The police recovered two pistols along with their rounds and snatched mobile phones from them.
A police spokesperson said the killed and held suspects were involved in killing of Mohammed Hussain and his son Asad Abbas during robbery at a bookshop in Korangi on Sept 6.
The victim, Mohammed Hussain, was president of Imambargah Zainabia and his son its general secretary. They had been running the `Prince Bookshop`.
According to contents of FIR lodged by Abid Husain, the complainant`s father and younger brother were present at their bookshop along with their employees when four suspects arrived there. They shot and injured the father and son, and fled. The injured persons were initially taken to nearby Indus Hospital where they succumbed to their wounds during treatment. Subsequently, their bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraudate Medical Centre for legal formalities.
The FIR did not mention it as robberyrelated incident. The police had registered it only as a murder case.
The police spokesperson said the Zaman Town police on Thursday conducted a raid to arrest the suspects when they resorted to firing, and in the ensuing encounter, one suspect was killed and the other arrested.
