MQM worker dies in jail

KARACHI: A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan died in the city`s central prison, the party and police of ficials said on Monday.

New Town SHO Ejaz Khan told Dawn that Naeem Faqir had died during treatment in the prison on Sunday. The of ficer quoted the jail administration as saying that he died of a heart attack.

Meanwhile, Nasreen Jalil, Syed Sardar Ahmed and other leaders of the MQM-Pakistan alleged at a press conference that Naeem had died because of `lack of provision of treatment` in the prison.

They said Naeem, a worker of party`s Lyari sector, had been arrested on April 23 and sent to jail on May 19.

`He was suffering from breathing problems and died on Sunday,` Nasreen Jalil said. She claimed that the party`s other workers were also not being provided `proper treatment`.
