NAROWAL: The project of construction of six roads at a cost of Rs1 billion under the Sialkot City Package will be completed by December 31.
Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Shah Meer Iqbal told Dawn that under the project, funded by the Punjab government, work on a 2.85km-long stretch of Shahabpura Road has been completed, while 88 percent of the work on another3.4km-long portion of the road has been done so far.
Similarly, 1.5km-long portion of Kashmir Road and 1.2km-long of Rail Road have also been constructed, he added.
The DC said Sialkot said that the work on 3.4km Khawaja Safdar Road and 2.2km Circular Road is going on rapidly. He said the construction of Imam Sahib Road is also a part of the project.
Mr Iqbal said that to ensure quality of work and its timely completion, the project is being monitoredon a daily basis.
He said that 77pc of the construction work of the project has been completed so far, while its financial progress is 70pc.
He said the project was aimed at resolving traffic problems being faced by people, through provision of alternative routes and improving city infrastructure.
The DC ordered the highways executive engineer and SDO concerned to improve the quality of the material and roads being constructed under the project.
