Girl students block road against shortage of teachers

LAKKI MARWAT: Students of Frontier Education Foundation Girls College, Naurang on Saturday blocked the G.T.

Road against shortage of teachers in the institution.

Over 50 girl students came out on the roan in Naurang city and blocked it to vehicular traffic. They said that the college lacked teachers of different subjects, hampering their education.

`We deposited all types of fees and now it is the responsibility of the high-ups concerned to ensure availability of teachers in the college, said a student. She said the college had no teachers for physics, mathematics, statistics and other subjects.

The local police and college teachers also reached the place and assured the protesting students that vacant posts of teachers would soon be filled. After the assurance the protesters dispersed.

Meanwhile, teachers of Working Folks Grammar Higher Secondary School, Naurang, boycotted classes against nonpayment of salaries.

`Teachers of the school have not been paid salaries of last month prompting them to show their anger and unrest,` said a teacher wishing not to be named. He said the teachers gathered in front of the principal`s officeto record their grievances.

He said that the teachers of working folk`s grammar school, Ghaznikhel were also without salaries for last three months.

He said that teachers were planning to launch a protest movement if salaries were not paid to them without delay.

TEACHERS FOUND ABSENT: Several teachers were found absent from duty when deputy district education officer Haji Khalid Wahab paid surprise inspection visits to several public sector schools on Saturday.

The visit was arranged following public complaints that teachers remained absent from government schools. DDEO Mr Wahab went to several primary schools in Tajazai, Zeran, Begaran localities and found teachers missing.

In GPS Bega Tajazai, two teachers and a class four employee were found absent.

Both teachers had been warned several times in past to improve their attendance but they did not mend their ways.Besides, funds meant for carrying out petty works and purchasing class consumable articles were not utilised by the school`s administration through parent teacher council.

One teacher each was also found absent from duty in GMPS Begaran and GPS Zeran while two unpunctual teachers of GPS Matan Tajazai faced an embarrassing situation when they knew that deputy district education officer had reached the school before them.

Mr Wahab directed reduction of salaries of the absent teachers and transferring them to other areas.
