LAHORE: Delegations of sugarcane growers and mills owners called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Thursday and discussed growers issues with him.
A press release quoted the chief minister as saying during the meeting and Agriculture Commission`s moot that growers interests would be safeguarded and that purchase of sugarcane at Rs180 per 40kg would be ensured. He said the complaints of short-measuring by the mills would also be addressed.
He said the sugar mills would be bound to give original receipt to the growers for their cane supplies and the violators would face action.
He constituted a committee to implement the decisions in an effective manner.
Farmers` representative Khalid Khokhar lauded the steps chief minister took for the farming community while the mills association`s Javed Kiani assured Mr Sharif that his decision would be implemented promptly.
Rao Tariq Ashfaq, Sarfaraz Khan and representatives of progressive farmers were also present on the occasion.
