SARGODHA: Mianwali police raided the house of Dawn correspondent Khurshid Anwar Khan and scaled its walls to break into it, an hour before submission of this story.

The lady police searched the house and humiliated the journalist`s wife while about a dozen male police officials encircled his residence and harassed him.

The police, as this scribe learnt, were offended with the journalist for reporting the incident of snatching nomination papers from the PTl aspirants of Mianwali district and allegedly assisting PTl district vice president of women wing, Amara Niazi, who was his cousin too, in submitting her nomination papers.

While leaving the journalist`s house, the police said they raided the house on a tip-off that the journalist was hiding Amara Niazi and other PTl activists.

It is also learnt that Khurshid Anwar Khan had reported extensively the issue of former MNA Amjad Khan Niazi, presently confined in the Mianwali Jail in the May 9 cases and he was not allowed to sign his nomination papers despite the orders of the special judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court, Sargodha.

Khurshid Anwar Khan has an unblemished repute as a journalist and lawyer and there is no case against him.

Earlier, the Dawn correspondent had reported that incidents of snatching of nomination papers of two PTl ticket aspirants from the returning office on the district court premises were reported on Wednesday.

Though both the aspirants blamed the policemen in civvies, the district police had rejected their charges and showed ignorance about the alleged incidents.

The aspirants included Ziaullah Khan Niazi advocate, a retired judicial officer, and Rafiullah Khan, the brother of former PTl MPA Ameenullah Khan and Gen Sanaullah Khan Shaheed.

Meanwhile, the District Bar Association boycotted local courts on Thursday to show their resentment against objectionable behaviour of local police with members of the bar during collection of nomination papers at the RO office on Wednesday.

The lawyers in the general body meeting chanted slogans against the government and local police.

In another incident, police raided the house of a lawyer who got nomination papers for ex-MNA of PTl Amjad Ali Khan who is in jail in a terror case.

The DBA demanded replacement of the returning officer. Correspondent
