MIRAMSHAH: The Uthmanzai Jirga of North Waziristan has blocked all roads in the district on Thursdayto press for their demands including establishment of peace, fair distribution of natural resources and stoppage of targeted killings.

Vehicular traffic in the district remained suspended, creating numerous difficulties for passengers. The Uthmanzai Jirga blocked Mir Ali road, Khaesore-Mir Ali road, BannuMiramshah road, Mir Ali-Miramshah road, Razmak-Miramshah road, Ghulam Khan road and Miramshah-Datta Khel road.

According to locals and jirga activists, the action was taken after the government did not accept their demands.

The jirga had previously presented their demands to the local administration, which included restoration of lasting peace, fair distribution of natural resources, end to targeted killings and recovery of missing persons, but the administration remained evasive.

They said mobile phone service also did not work properly in the district for the last couple of days. Correspondent
