HYDERABAD: Hundreds of Lakhra coal mine workers staged a rally outside the local press club on Friday against indifferent attitude of police.
Raising full-throated slogans against police and some extortionists, who demand money from the coal mines` authorities, they demanded establishment of a Rangers kiosk in their working area.
Led by Muttahida Labour Federation (MLF) leader Qamoos Gul Khattak and others, the workers reached the press club in a convoy of trucks from coal mines and blocked the road there. Other leaders who were present there included Zardar Khan, Haji Amjad Ali Khan, Haji Sher Zaman, Ashraf Rajput and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khattak said that on Jan 15, terrorists and extortionists resorted to firing and tried to torch mines` machinery. He said labourers were threatened with dire consequence to force them to close their work in Habibullah Coal Mines which was closed to date.
