KARACHI: Under the joint auspices of the Ministries of Civil Defence and Education, a `unity` campaign was launched in Sind with the object of fostering better relations between the two major communities.

The inauguration was celebrated by declaring the day a school holiday. All students above 15 years of age in all schools and colleges throughout the province were compulsorily asked to write an essay on `Hindu-Muslim unity` The advantages of having it and the disadvantages of not having it. Prizes will be given for the best essays. At many places meetings were also held to propagate the ideal of communal harmony. Dr Hemandas, Minister of Health, has declared that he will make the question of unity in Sind his especial interest.

Dr. Hemandas ... outlined his views on the question of Hindu-Muslim unity as follows:`The selfish exploitation of the poor ignorant people`s easily mouldable sentiment by men at the top both politicians as well as non-politicians including men in service zamindars as well as shahukars is the cause of HinduMuslim disunity.
