LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has dismantled a ketchup production unit and stopped production of two food points on account of adulteration and substandard operations.

The action was taken by a team during operation carried out under the supervision of PFA Director General Irfan Memon.

The provincial food regulator also lodged an FIR against the ketchup production unit after dismantling the machinery.

Further, PFA has discarded 1,300kg substandard ketchup, 400kg pulp, 400kg starch and a huge quantity of loose colours and chemicals.

Irfan Memon said unwholesome ketchup of famous brands was being prepared with hazardous ingredients. The raiding team also witnessed wrong labelling on products and poor hygiene.

Apart from that, the production unit was being run without getting a food licence from the PFA, he said.

Similarly, a PFA team has stopped the production of ABNFoods and SBNFoods in Qainchi Bazaar by imposing emergency prohibition orders.
